Story
I'm running the Beachy Head Marathon on 25th October, to raise funds for Breast Cancer Kent - a charity from which someone very close to me has benefitted, and which she recommends wholeheartedly as a good cause.
I'd really appreciate any contribution you make, no matter how much or how little.
I've left it until quite late in the day to launch this fundraising page, as my training has been interrupted by injury, as well as flare-ups of arthritis and gout. But I completed my final long distance (31 km) preparation run on 11th October, and feel much more confident now, that I'll be able to go ahead.
I've run the Beachy Head Marathon before, in 2015 (see picure above). It is a beautiful course, with the Weald one side of the South Downs, and the sea on the other. But also gruelling, ending with the Seven Sisters cliffs and Beachy Head itself before a liberating downhill dash back into Eastbourne. I was 58 when I ran it before, in about 4 hours, 40 minutes, and I'm aiming for 5 hours this time, at the riper age of 68. Hmm... The weather forecast isn't perfect - but hey, whoever said that what's worthwhile should also be easy?
