Trek Mount Toubkal · 3 June 2025

The Chiltern Centre provides bespoke, individualised care to young people with learning disabilities. It gives them opportunities to socialise, learn new skill, move towards greater independence and have fun. All the while it provides their families with a much needed break from their caring role.

Story

The Chiltern Centre have had their doors open for the past 20 years and this has been possible from donations. Their goal is to make 16-30 year old's fulfilled in their lives, from planning short specialised breaks to teaching them to build new skills to allow them the opportunity to gain independence.

There are a few beautiful stories on their website which encapsulates the wonderful work the team do at the Chiltern Centre:

To help support this local charity, I'll be climbing Mount Toubkal in Morocco (all 4,167m) with the wonderful team I work with in June 2025.

For anyone who knows me, this is way out of my comfort zone (both the distance to trek and the height I'll be going to, not to mention the lack of home comforts and luckily the football season is over by then).

Therefore, to make it even more worthwhile, I am hoping you can support me by making any donation possible that will 100% go towards this amazing charity to continue its support in the local community.

2nd Feb Update - Training is underway, with Benny providing support with a 3 day core exercise plan which i failed at miserable on day 1, unable to complete most of his exercises, while the family are laughing at me while walking up and down our stairs every morning. Thinking I have good general fitness to complete this might have be an understatement!!

8th May Update - So 3 months into my 'training' programme and i have climbed 1,300 flights of stairs more then if i didnt do any training :-). By my reckoning that's approx 4km climbed and so in theory, I've smashed it!? Only problem being I've done it over 3 months rather than 3 days. 5 weeks to go.........

2nd June Update - ok, so training complete. 1,370 flights of stairs climbed, 43km walk, ran or treadmilled and about 500 jumping squats completed (Thank you Sharon and Benny for your training support). Surely, this will be a 'walk in the park' now.

Thank you to everyone for the sponsorship and, as with the words of my favour LIverpool song, I will use them to keep me going.

"When you trek Mount Toubkal

Hold your poles in your hand

And don’t be afraid of the climb

At the top of the mountain

Is an amazing view

And the sweet personal sense of achievement

Trek on through the day

Trek on through the night

Though your luxuries will be few and far

Trek on, Trek on

with the hope of your friends

and you’ll never trek alone

You’ll never trek alone"
