Finding out you have a child with Down syndrome is terrifying, your child is instantly labelled and often have many worrying medical conditions.

Personally in Nicos short years he’s spent weeks in hospital fighting for what begins as a common cold for some children and never becomes more but for him resulted in bronchiolitis and pneumonia fighting for breath on oxygen machines and being tube fed. These days are draining , and the worries around medical conditions are constant. There’s very few specialists he doesn’t see. Then there is also a mental worry of all the what if’s , will my little boy have friends? Will he ever walk? Will he ever talk? Will he get married? Will he ever live away from the family home? Every time you hit one milestone that you thought would never come, another worry then arrives.

Positive about Down syndrome can’t remove these worries but they help provide support and a community of people and professional support for families to help you ensure your child is treat with equal rights and helps you ensure your child can reach their potential. This then in turn supports in you being able to try enjoy your child for the wonderful little person they are.

Nico is an absolute gem who brings joy everywhere he goes as well as a bit of cheekiness and attitude! We wouldn’t change him for the world, but we would change bits of the world for him.

Positive about Down syndrome are trying to do just that and trying to influence a more inclusive world.

Running a half marathon is going to be no easy task! Especially with nearly 3 years without decent sleep but we are doing this for what we believe is a great cause and on behalf of our little ledge Nico.❤️
