Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have decided to take on a challenge this July. A nonstop 100km trek in the Peak District. We expect this should take us around 24 hours. Yes it is a crazy idea, but i've never been to the Peak District looking forward to enjoy the daylight views !
Thought I would use this event to raise some money for Newdigate Church Spire which needs reshingling to repair, protect and preserve this ancient and historic Grade II* Listed church building.
St Peter's Spire oak shingles have softened and decayed over time. In the lower section of the tower the timber has almost turned to pulp glued together by algae. To protect and preserve this distinctive tower, reshingling the entire roof with new oak shingles is now a priority. The required repairs have been costed at £150,000.
The Spire at St Peter's Church Newdigate is wholly built of timber with six of the timbers dated as felled in 1525. Above the weather-boarded belfry the shingled spire extends 60 feet up. Its quite a feature of the village, worth preserving for future generations
