Every two hours, someone in the UK will become paralysed. Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. At Spinal Research our vision is to create a world where paralysis can be cured, no matter when the injury occurred or where in the world.

Story

A spinal injury can happen to anyone at any time. It happened to my sister 4 years ago, a brilliant woman who now lives in chronic pain. As a neuroscientist, trained through the funds raised by the amazing supporters of Spinal Research, I have dedicated my career to trying to find a cure for spinal cord injury.

Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord.

They receive no government funding and rely entirely on the support of the public to raise funds for life changing research. Because of the efforts of their supporters, they have funded innovative medical research that has achieved a number of ground breaking changes in the field. I believe that these therapies will make a substantive difference to those living with the effects of a spinal cord injury, and as such I want to support Spinal Research in all the amazing work they do.
