Virunga National Park, Africa’s most biodiverse protected area, exists to protect 1/3 of the world’s wild mountain gorillas, over one thousand species of mammal, bird, reptile and amphibian, and provide a brighter future to more than four million people affected by conflict.

Story

Dear all - I'm sure most of you who know me know of my passion for Virunga National Park, its staff and all the rangers working with dedication to protect the park, in particular the mountain gorillas. It has been a particularly challenging few years for the park, from Covid causing us to shut down to tourism, to ebola and the current ongoing conflict that plagues Eastern DR Congo, making operations and day-to-day lives of so many Congolese people very challenging.

However, it's the determination of everyone I work with in Virunga National Park that has inspired me tremendously over the years and I'm lucky to be a full-time member of the team since the start of 2024. Being based in DRC really opened my eyes to the need for awareness about this magnificent park, its rangers and the challenging conditions in Eastern DRC.

I'm running the London marathon and hoping to raise some money for Virunga and help to support the millions of Congolese people who are facing incredibly challenging circumstances right now.

Follow along on my instagram page for updates on my training in DRC, where I am limited to a very small landing strip to run on :)
