Story
I will soon be embarking on the Dumball Rally. Some of you will have heard of the Gumball Rally, involving Ferraris and Lamborghinis driving across Europe staying at some of the Continent's finest hotels. Dumball Rally is not that. Instead, you spend a few hundred quid on a car and hope you don't breakdown on your way to somewhere quite a long way away. I did it in 2018, driving to Corfu in an old Jag. We made it.
Dumball 2025 is billed as the last ever, so it seemed too good an opportunity to miss. This year, it is France, Spain and Portugal, ending up in Majorca. I will be joined by Dumball royalty, Nick Goodwin (who some will know as CEO of HMCTS) and Steve Griffin an Architect from Buckinghamshire. We have purchased our cheap wheels, a 20 year Subaru Legacy, and will soon set about “upgrading” it for the Rally. Our theme will be the Justice League - think Judge, Police and comedy inmate dispensing informal justice to fellow Rally-goers in return for donations.
Now, the serious stuff. Dumball Rally 2025 is in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust and War Child. The origins of the Rally date to 2007; the original rally comprised 17 teams, including a young man called Adam Horn, who would change the Dumball forever. Adam’s leg was amputated because of Cancer - but that didn’t stop him. He joined the rally as they drove to Istanbul and loved every minute. He was due to join in 2008, but sadly he passed away. Every year since, his father Colin Horn has joined the rally - an event that is now dedicated to the memory of Adam.
All proceeds go to the Trust and War Child, so I would be grateful for any support you can offer. Thank you. Phil
