I am raising money for Sobell House Hospice in memory of my Nan, Patricia James, known to so many of us as Nanny Pat.

Nan was cared for by Sobell House during her final days in December 2025, and the kindness, compassion and dignity shown to her - and to our family - was nothing short of incredible. At one of the hardest times in our lives, they made everything feel calmer, warmer and more humane, and we will always be grateful.

Anyone who knew Nanny Pat will know why this means so much. She touched so many hearts, made people dance a little longer, laugh a little louder, and live life with more joy. Her personality was infectious, her thirst for life unmatched, her strength truly courageous, and her presence absolutely magical. Losing her has left a hole in our family that will never be filled, but her memory will live on forever.

I will be running the Oxford Half Marathon on 11th October 2026, just two days before Nan’s birthday, which feels incredibly fitting. This run is my way of honouring her life, keeping her memory alive, and giving something back to a hospice that gave us so much when we needed it most.

I will not be doing it alone - I will be running alongside my Mum and Sarah, a close family friend, which feels very special. Doing this together, as a team, feels like the perfect way to celebrate Nan’s life and the love she had for bringing people together.

Sobell House relies heavily on charitable donations to continue their vital work. Every donation, no matter the size, will help them support more families with the same care, dignity and compassion that they gave to ours.
