Sands is the charity speaking up about pregnancy and baby loss, saving babies’ lives and supporting bereaved families. Together, we are saving babies’ lives and improving maternity safety and bereavement care through research, training and campaigning.

Story

On 29th April 2023 my son Archie entered the world sleeping at 27 weeks after being diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder.

This year I've decided to run the London marathon in his memory as a way to mark two years and to raise some awareness.

You never think that something like this would happen to you or even know that it does happen but unfortunately happens far too often with most UK hospitals dealing with 1-2 baby deaths per week.

Sands provide UK hospitals with memory boxes which include a hand and foot print painting kit, blankets, teddy's and much more. This goes a long way at the time and something that you cherish forever but wouldn't have these memories without the support of Sands. £50 is one box for one family.

They also offer on-going support for families affected by the death of a baby and the trauma that comes with it. This is self funded and ran by some amazing individuals but ultimately comes at a huge cost.

I'm no athlete so this will be pushing myself mentally and physically to the max!

Thank you for the donations, wish me luck and I look forward to seeing you back in my natural environment (the pub)

Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, operates across the UK: supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby; working in partnership with health professionals to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care; and promoting improvements in practice and funding research that could help to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.

We depend on the amazing energies of our supporters to raise the vital funds that we need to deliver the wide range of services that we offer. #TeamSands
