Phoebe's Charity Race - Ascot

Phoebe Solan is raising money for Action Through Enterprise

Charity Race · 10 July 2026

Action Through Enterprise is changing lives in rural Ghana through education, enterprise and inclusion. We work with local communities tackling poverty, creating opportunities and switching on hope. Since 2012, our transformational work has touched the lives of 27,000 people.

Story

I am very grateful to have been selected to compete in the Charity Race at Ascot on Friday 10th July 2026, as part of Property Race Day.

To secure a spot on the start line, I must first complete The Jockey Test: a one day test, held at The British Racing School in Newmarket. I will be asked to perform a ridden test and a fitness test to prove my competence. The ridden test will take place on the gallops and the fitness test includes the following exercises:

* 20 exercise‑ball squats with 5kg weight, followed by a 3‑minute hold

* Wobble‑cushion static squat hold for 4 minutes

* Press‑up hold for 90 seconds

* Resistance band push to metronome beat for 3 minutes

* Leg raises to a metronome beat for 4 minutes

* Plank hold for 4 minutes

* Wattbike test:

* Warm‑up: 3 minutes at an average of 100 watts

* Test: 3‑minutes maintaining 100 rpm

I have been training at the gym regularly since applying for the race and would like to thank my Personal Trainer, Paolo Cafiero, for all his encouragement so far.

I would also like to thank Pat Phelan and the team at Ermyn Lodge Stud. Since October, I have been getting up at 5am every Friday to ride out in Epsom before starting work. I am slowly getting to grips with how to ride a racehorse, but further tips and tricks are always welcome!

As well as completing The Jockey Test, which will be at the start of May, I must also raise a minimum of £5,000 for my chosen charity: Action Through Enterprise - Ghana.

This charity was launched in 2012 and works with rural communities in Upper West Ghana, tackling poverty and creating opportunities. Action Through Enterprise works across the whole of Lawra Municipal, where they create opportunities through education, enterprise and inclusion. Their dynamic model is based on community hubs and local people are at the heart of everything they do. In 2026, Action Through Enterprise Ghana is aiming to partner four new schools, launch two disability groups, and support more people to grow businesses and learn long-lasting skills. I would be hugely grateful for any support in helping me reach my target.

I will be posting updates on my Instagram and LinkedIn along the way. In the meantime, please do share this link with family & friends who may wish to donate and/or come and support on the day.

Thank you!
