Praxis Care is the largest registered care charity in Northern Ireland. We also provide services across Northern Ireland, Ireland, Great Britain and Isle of Man. We are dedicated to supporting individuals with mental ill health, learning disabilities, autism and dementia. We support over 1,500 adults and children in over 80 different locations and have a particular expertise in working with the most complex needs, where individuals face unique challenges to community living. We are growing in response to the high demand for our services and aim to expand to support 3000 individuals by 2025. Praxis Care provides services across a broad spectrum of service user needs. We provide support and accommodation approaches, which are shaped around the needs and preferences of the individual and reflects how they want to live their lives. We are acutely aware that getting the support and accommodation mix right for the individual is not an option but an essential foundation for sustained success. At all levels of need we seek to identify the best solution available, with the service user and others who are important to them. This includes type and location of accommodation, who they live with and the support they need from our staff. We believe that complex needs should not prevent someone from having the opportunity of community living.

Story

Pinewood respite is a purpose built 5 bedroom house with an additional self-contained apartment. Each bedroom has its own en-suite attached. Pinewood provides overnight breaks to children between the ages of 8 to 19 (provided they are in fulltime education) years.

Pinewood provides specialist support for a mixed group of children with intellectual disabilities and/or Autism, associated social & communication difficulties and behaviours of concern.

Pinewood provides short breaks for families by providing a high quality, caring, environment for their children. The environment is child friendly and focuses on 'home from home' care.

This service provides specialised, person-centred packages of support with the emphasis being on service users fulfilling their potential through the development of vocational and life skills.

We focus on developing transferable skills which fosters and encourages the achievement of personal goals. By supporting service users to become involved in the day-to-day activities we are able to develop a fulfilled sense of achievement while building confidence, new friendships, teamwork, communication skills and problem solving skills.

The staff team are a competent and caring group of people who all undergo an in depth training so as to ensure each person working in the service is able to feel confident within their role.

In Pinewoods we strive to help the children reach their goals while also ensuring they have a fun filled stay. In order to do this we ensure that the service has all the things it needs to support the children.

We are currently fundraising to help us purchase tough furniture for our service given the nature of Pinewoods we would love to purchase furniture that is bright and colorful and robust enough to withstand the pressures of the service.
