Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
The past few months have been incredibly difficult. In June 2026 we lost our dear friend and colleague Robert Newton after a very short battle with Cancer.
Rob lived a life defined by service, courage, and compassion. He served with distinction as a Royal Marine before continuing his commitment to others in the Australian Defence Force. Throughout his military career, he demonstrated quiet strength, resilience, and an unwavering sense of duty—qualities that remained with him for the rest of his life.
After leaving the military, Rob found a new calling in education. As a Geography teacher at The Petersfield School, he inspired countless young people to look beyond the classroom and embrace the world around them. Leading outdoor education, the Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and adventurous training, he gave students opportunities to discover their own resilience, confidence, and potential. He believed that some of life’s greatest lessons were learned outdoors, through challenge, teamwork, and perseverance.
Throughout the academic year of September 2026-2027 as a school community we want to undertake a number of fundraisers and challenges to raise money for The Rosemary Foundation. The care of this charity meant that Rob could spend his final days comfortably at home with his family. We want to make sure that more local people in Petersfield, Hampshire and West Sussex can continue to benefit from the care of this fantastic charity.
“The mountains he climbed, the lives he shaped, and the love he gave will never be forgotten.”
