Story
We are D&Q Theatre (Disabled and Queer Theatre) - a theatre collective comprised of disabled and queer, artists and creatives (and allies). We often tell stories about or involving the disabled/or queer experience, as well as themes and subjects impacting the communities.
We are fundraising for Mindout:
MindOut is a LGBTQ mental health charity. Our mission is to improve the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ communities through peer-led, inclusive, and accessible services. They are a “by and for” organisation, meaning all their services are designed and delivered by LGBTQ+ people for LGBTQ+ people.
LGBTQ+ people experience disproportionately poor mental health outcomes, not because of their identity, but because of persistent stigma, discrimination and a lack of understanding of their complex needs. National evidence shows that 52% of LGBTQ+ people experienced depression in the past year, rising to 70% among nonbinary people, compared with 16% of the general population. Rates of suicidality are significantly higher: one in eight LGBTQ+ people aged 18–24 have attempted suicide last year. To support LGBTQ people with mental health issues MindOut offers advocacy, counselling, peer-mentoring, peer support groups, befriending and online instant web chat.
For this fundraiser, we are hoping to spread the word via social media, host a bake sale, and we are producing a brand new show called 'Pity Party' which will be premiering at The Bread and Roses Theatre in Clapham from the 27th - 30th April 2026 (with the production being filmed and made available for free with the option to donate upon watching the recording at a later point).
Pity Party is all about celebrating life, sharing love, and losing yourself. Everything happens in one day, for one day only, at a party, in a theatre, and it will never be exactly the same - that’s why it’s live and why we’re alive. The show explores how we impact events (or at least our experience of events), whilst allowing us to question how much we should believe in what we are seeing. Pity party is a comedy and a tragedy; it involves verbatim theatre, mixed media, dance, physical theatre, improvisation and text. It is a show of pure chaos, where no one can know for sure what is real and/or true. It is an intimate experience, but it is also an extremely public event. It is entirely Human. It is a party unlike one you’ll have ever been to before: there will be cake, there should be laughter, there may be tears, but “It’s My Party And I’ll Cry If I Want To”...’
