On May 10 2024, our lives were rocked when our eagerly anticipated second born baby was born seriously poorly. It was entirely unexpected and a shock. He’s measured big all pregnancy but no indication that anything was wrong. He didn’t breathe properly when he was born- they tried lots of interventions before unfortunately having to intubate him and send him to the NICU, critically unwell. What was supposed to be one of the best day of our lives was suddenly a nightmare like we had never encountered. Fortunately, as you know, our little Nico is now 10 months and THRIVING.

Whilst we were in the scariest place, we received wonderful support from Tiny Lives who provide incredible support and community for those that find themselves in Neonatal Intensive Care. We were given care packages of essentials we hadn’t thought to bring with us, invited to a warm community of other people who have or are experiencing the NICU, craft and photography materials for staff to keep you updated on baby’s progress, coffee mornings… the list is endless.

Thankfully our NICU stay was short, and Nico appears to have had no repercussions of his stay. But we will be forever in debt to Tiny Lives who held us at our most vulnerable moments.

As a result, I will be running GNR 2025 to help raise much needed funds for this charity so they can support more families in shock, dealing with the unexpected at what should be a joyful time.
