Jean & Donal's fundraiser for Global Anaesthesia Development Partnerships

Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, July 14th 2025 · 14 July 2025
We are fundraising for Global Anaesthesia Development Partnerships (GADP) by walking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks! We're doing this as a motivated, inspired and (hopefully) merry (sore feet pending) team! We aim to complete the 24-mile route having summited Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres)...all within 12 hours! EEk!
We're doing this to support the Zambia Anaesthesia Development program, a partnership initiative that works to develop safe anaesthetic and critical care in Zambia. In low and lower-middle income countries like Zambia, 9 out of 10 people do not have access to basic surgical care. A fundamental component of access to safe surgery is the presence of a specialist physician who is trained to prepare patients for surgery, deliver anaesthesia, provide effective and appropriate pain relief and care for critically unwell patients. These physicians are anaesthetists.
Currently, there are around 60 physician anaesthetist in Zambia, yes, in the whole country of around 10 million people. To put this in perspective there are over 10,000 physician anaesthetists in the UK.
Please help ZADP's goal to train more physician anaesthetists so that they can help deliver safe surgical care to those who need it. To read more about how ZADP delivers its objectives, read the program page here;

Thank you so much for helping. Your donation will support the program in many ways. Here are just some of the ways in which your donation will be used to deliver safe surgical care.
- Resuscitation Training - Anaesthetist-led training courses helping healthcare workers learn how to recognise a deteriorating patient and lead effective resuscitation
- Support anaesthetists to develop local healthcare systems through learning opportunities abroad
- Project Management - Dedicated local project managers provide administrative and logistical capacity to the project, as well as supporting the vision and motivation for the work
- Trainee Bursaries - Support doctors training to become anaesthetists, covering tuition fees and expenses
