Story

This page was created in loving memory of Patrick (Pat) O'Brien.

Born in 1951 in New Ross, Co.Wexford, Ireland to Thomas O'Brien & Margaret (Peg) O'Brien. He was the eldest of seven children. He had many tales to tell from his childhood, usually involving him and his siblings causing mischief. He always enjoyed his trips back home to see all his family to reminisce.

He worked in the Newcastle upon Tyne trust for many years, starting at the General Hospital not long after moving to Newcastle on the 17th August 1974, moving to Neuro X-Ray in 1986 and staying there until he retired in 2009 aged 58.

He was compassionate and always put the patient first to ensure they got the best care possible.

Working at the hospital was where he first met his wife Janet and they soon became friends until eventually they started dating and were married on 20th March 1982. 43 years later and they have 3 amazing children and 6 grandchildren they are besotted with.

When Pat first moved to Newcastle, he was introduced to Newcastle United and they soon became his team. He had a season ticket for many years and it would take a lot for him to miss a chance to hang out with the lads and watch.

He was there with them through the bad times and all his unwavering support paid off recently when he got to see them play in Wembley and then win a trophy.

He was recently diagnosed with cancer and remained his incredible self throughout and continued to support and help his family all while his treatment was on-going.

We are celebrating the life of a truly remarkable man who touched the lives of so many people. In honour of his memory, we are raising funds for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, a cause that is so important and very fitting due to Pat's work life, personal life and love of Newcastle United.
