Polar Circle Marathon · 27 October 2024

Malala Fund is working for a world where all girls can learn and lead without fear. Malala and Ziauddin Yousafzai founded Malala Fund in 2013 to champion every girl’s right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education.

Story

I’ll be participating in the Polar Circle Marathon, ranked 3rd in the top 10 insanely hard marathons and often referred to as the coolest marathon on Earth. Alongside 100 other participants, I’ll race through the Arctic desert on the ice sheets in one of the northernmost regions of Greenland.

I set my sights on this goal over five years ago after learning about the first two Irish women to complete the marathon back in 2018. While this has long been a dream of mine and will undoubtably be a significant personal test of my mental and physical endurance. Around the world, women and girls are fighting for their right to pursue their dreams. Barriers to education and opportunities continue to grow, exacerbated by recent global conflicts, poverty, discrimination, and the climate crisis, all of which hinder access to safe, quality education.

That's why I've chosen to support the Malala Fund for this challenge. This organisation is dedicated to ensuring that young women have access to education and greater opportunities - hoping we can help empower another girl pursue her dream!
