SWV helps wounded veterans regain their independence through skiing. In March, 25 veterans will take to the slopes to build confidence & restore self-belief. With challenge & camaraderie they are empowered to successfully transition to civilian life.

Story

I'm so excited to share that I've been given the incredible opportunity to volunteer as a 'buddy' for the Supporting Wounded Veterans (SWV) Skihabilitation week in March 2025.

Many of us will never fully understand the sacrifices our veterans have made or the challenges they face when returning to civilian life, especially while dealing with life-changing injuries or mental health struggles.

For those who aren't familiar with SWV, they provide medically discharged UK servicemen and women with the opportunity to regain their independence, find meaningful employment and reconnect with their loved ones through a range of rehabilitation programmes. These include pain management, mentoring, educational support and sporting events, all aimed at helping veterans transition back into civilian life, and the ski week is a key part of their program. It combines physical activity, camaraderie, and emotional support to aid veterans in their journey of recovery.

The work that SWV does, helping veterans regain confidence, find employment, and rebuild their lives, is extraordinary, and I feel incredibly privileged to have this opportunity to be involved in it, and support our injured veterans in this way.

I’ve been told by those who have been buddies on the Skihabilitation week previously that it will be one of the toughest yet most rewarding experiences of my life. I have no doubt it will be, and I cannot wait!

I'm raising money to support this charity and would be incredibly grateful for any donations, big or small. I am covering all my own costs, so that every contribution will go towards providing essential services for the veterans, from the ski week itself, to ongoing rehabilitation and care.

If you haven't already, please check out my Vinted page, where I am selling lots of gorgeous designer clobber and box fresh trainers. ALL proceeds will go to SWV.

What the veterans say about Ski Week....

“Where I come from, I have no friends or family. This week I found friends and a family”.

2024 Veteran

“I didn’t think I would cope, I nearly didn’t come. I am glad I did come, it pushed me physically and mentally and I now know I can push myself. SWV has shown me how things can be better”.

2024 Veteran

“The thing that stood out for me was knowing that I wasn’t alone, and the amount of overwhelming support that the charity has for us”.

2024 Veteran

“What a week. Wasn’t sure what to expect coming into the trip. Full of anxiety having not left my house for years properly with the fear of socialising. Was made to feel at ease in days and comfortable sharing my story with at first a group of strangers that by the end of the week were family. The veterans, buddies and staff are possibly the nicest people I’ll ever meet”.
