Story
I’m running the London Landmarks half marathon 2025 for a charity that’s very close to my heart. The ADSHG (Addisons disease self help group) is a charity that supports people who are affected by addisons disease.
My motivation and inspiration for my fundraiser is my partner Ollie, he has this condition and despite dealing with the daily symptoms that comes with it, he has never let it hold him back, I am incredibly proud of Ollie and everything he accomplishes he is without a doubt the strongest and most amazing person I know.
Addison’s, also known as adrenal insufficiency is a condition where the adrenal glands do not produce enough of certain hormones. It affects 1 in 10,000 people, meaning it is a very rare disease.
Although Addison’s is a lifelong condition, symptoms can be controlled with replacement hormones. But those living with the condition need to take steroid medication several times a day to stay healthy and are also at risk of having a life-threatening adrenal crisis which means they must carry an emergency hydrocortisone injection.
The ADSHG is an amazing charity that support the Addison’s and adrenal insufficiency community to promote better medical understanding of this rare condition and fund vital research, it’s also a very small charity so every donation really does make a difference!
