Story

Dawn (dressed in black in the photo) joined Portishead Running Club a year ago when she enrolled in our couch to 5k programme. After successfully completing her Clevedon parkrun, she gained a love of running. Dawn often reminisced about her summer runs along the coast and how they made her feel so alive. Sadly, Dawn was only with us for a short time because she became ill over the summer. PRC members supported her throughout her battle with cancer, the cruel disease that finally took her life on Christmas Day 2023. During that short time with us, Dawn made a lasting and positive impact on all in the club who knew her. Dawn spent her final days in the amazing, loving and tender care of staff at St Peter's Hospice.

St Peter's Hospice's expert teams provide holistic support covering the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual issues that can arise as a result of serious illness. They also extend their care to loved ones and carers, providing respite during the hardest of times.

Now, we at Portishead Running Club want to honour Dawn's memory by raising funds to help St Peter's Hospice to continue to provide their incredibly badly needed services. Many of our members will be completing this endurance challenge and we would love you to contribute if at all possible.

Thanks to donations like yours, staff at St Peter's Hospice can be a voice at the end of the phone, a nurse on the doorstep, and a hand to hold through the darkest of times.

St Peter's Hospice provide their vital services free of charge. However, it costs around £24,000 a day to provide that care. Your kind donation you could help fund the following:

£12 could pay for two hot meals for a patient staying in our Inpatient Unit

£20 could help fund a nurse's time on their 24 hour Advice Line

£45 could help a family to access bereavement support

£75 could pay for the visit of a Community Nurse Specialist
