Story

About Ethar

‘Ethar’ is derived from an Arabic word, which denotes the altruistic giving to the needy without regard for one’s need, even if that need is justified. This elevated principal was the catalyst for the formation of our charity over a decade ago.

We have worked devotedly to aid the Eritrean Refugees, who are indeed the Forgotten People. Ethar has since established itself as the leading relief agency in working with the Eritrean Refugees globally.

About People Over Tech

We are a multi-faceted organisation with an immigrant-friendly ethos that includes:

- A tech-for-good agency that help local SMEs with their digital presence (from creating sites to digital marketing)

- An events management agency that host events that promote culture, sports, music and embrace diversity

- Mentorship opportunities for students

- Educational courses on a wide range of topics

We'll be running many ticketed events in the next month or two, with all proceeds going towards Ethar!

About Blen Tesfaye

Blen Tesfaye was someone incredibly close to my heart and one of the kindest and most open souls I've come across in this dunya. She was an incredibly proud Ethiopian woman who lived in Germany who lit up any party with her bright smile, big laugh and mesmerising dance moves.

She was studying nursing in Frankfurt in 2020, when tragically she lost her life to an accident. A vacuum was left behind when she ascended and friends, family and acquaintances alike will always mention that she was such a radiant, positive light in this world.

She was the first person who truly welcomed me to Munich when I begun my career as a software engineer. It's also because of her I became even prouder of my own heritage and she inspires me to always give space for other ethnic minorities in the diaspora to feel welcome when they land in foreign countries.

I found my place in the world through the kind heart of one woman whose body is no longer with us but whose soul is eternally bound by all the threads of spirituality we share as human beings. She was the living embodiment of the power of love.

My final act of grief was to create something that meant I would never hear her name and feel pain so eventually, I would love to set up a charity in her name so that anytime your hear "Blen Tesfaye", you remember goodness.
