Story
I am raising money to help children and families living with the impact of liver disease.
In 2021 our granddaughter Mia was very poorly with frequent admissions to hospital undergoing many tests and biopsies. After over two years of investigations Mia was diagnosed with a really rare condition, Dock8 deficiency that meant her immune system wasn’t working as it should, as a result of the Dock8 deficiency Mia developed liver disease
In February 2024 Mia went into end stage liver failure and was on the transplant list, Mia had her liver transplant in March 2024, the transplant was a success and she now needed to recover well with her new liver so she was well enough to undergo chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant to replace her immune system.
Sadly, Mia passed away 3rd May 2024 age 6. Mia was a fantastic, funny, inspiring and gorgeous 6year old who lit up the room with love, laughter and kindness, she was truly remarkable and I am blessed to have been her Grandma.
Liver disease affects so many children and their families, its life changing and the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation supported our family when life and the future was incredibly uncertain.
There are so many children and their families that need support and help as they learn to live with a liver disease diagnosis and treatment so being able to contribute through raising awareness and raising funds really helps them to continue the fantastic work they do.
So on Big Yellow Friday I’ll be swimming 2miles to raise money in memory of Mia and to support other children living with liver disease.
Thank you for your support.
