Story
Hello good people,
I need your help - raising money to support a brilliant project, where we take rough sleepers in - who would otherwise spend Christmas sleeping on the pavement.
Rough Sleeping
They are often in alleyways, sleeping in tents in underpasses, perhaps sleeping on buses overnight to keep warm. Hostels are often filled with drug pushers and can be quite unsafe, so the streets can sadly be the safest option.
The average life expectancy for someone sleeping rough in the UK is 43 years old.
Crisis at Christmas
My centre takes in over 150 rough sleepers for a fortnight. They get all the things we take for granted: a bed, hot shower, hot meals, but also haircuts, dentistry, medical services and of course housing support. And of course, spending Christmas Day sharing a meal at a table.
The project as a whole, serves thousands of people in day centres - providing them with companionship, advice, and other services.
What can you do?
Please donate whatever you can to support this project. Or come and volunteer with me
• Just £29.80 can give someone the safety, support and belief to build a life beyond homelessness.
• £102 provides three hours with a member of our Intensive Case Management Team, who work closely with people who are facing complex barriers to moving out of homelessness, providing wrap around support, forming a relationship of trust and building their confidence.
Want to volunteer?
I'm doing night shifts from 30th Dec - 6th Jan. Last year we were desperate for volunteers towards the last few nights, so please do help if you can.
Overnight, the centre is run entirely by volunteers. It's our job to keep our guests safe and support them in getting the first good night's sleep they've had all year.
