Story
The year 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh, an estate agent who went to meet a client and never returned. In her name, the Suzy Lamplugh Trust has transformed how we understand and respond to stalking, harassment, and personal safety in the UK.
To honour this milestone, my daughter Eve and I will be running the Southwold half-Marathon on March 1st with the aim of raising £1,500 — enough to train one new Independent Stalking Advocate. From the Suzy Lamplugh Trust’s research https://www.suzylamplugh.org/national-stalking-awareness-week-2022-bridging-the-gap, we know that advocacy is vital, with victims who are supported by an ISA having a 1 in 4 chance of their perpetrator being convicted, compared to the national average of 1 in 1,000.
In recognition of its 40th year, the Trust will match the donation Eve and I raise by offering an additional free training place — creating opportunities for two advocates to be trained with full sponsorship. These places will go to individuals or small services that share the Trust’s values of empowerment, respect, and practical action to make everyone safer, but who might not otherwise have the budget to access this specialist training. The sponsored places will be advertised for the September 2026 intake.
Every extra pound we raise above our target could extend this opportunity further, strengthening a network of people dedicated to preventing harm and supporting recovery.
Your donation doesn’t just fund a run — it helps build a safer society, one advocate at a time.
