PROJECT: CARRY THE WEIGHT | 2027

Ashley Kitt is raising money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)

Project: Carry The Weight 2027

We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.

Story

In 2027, I’m carrying the weight. Literally.

For the entire year, every run I complete will be wearing a 10kg weighted vest.

From everyday 5Ks and training runs to half marathons, races and endurance events — the weight stays on.

Already on the calendar are the Lisbon Half Marathon and one of the biggest challenges of the project so far: the REDON Backyard Ultra Tactical Division, where I’ll keep completing 6.7km loops every hour for as long as I can.

But that takes me only five months into a twelve-month challenge.

What comes after that? We’ll find out.

More races. More challenges. More miles. And hopefully some opportunities that don't even exist yet.

Project: Carry the Weight is built around a simple idea:

We all carry weight that nobody else can see.

Stress. Pressure. Expectations. Work. Family. Relationships. Money. Failure. Loss. The things we struggle with quietly while telling everyone else we're fine.

For me, the 10kg vest makes that invisible weight visible.

I'm doing this to raise money and awareness for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and to encourage more conversations around mental health and suicide prevention.

This isn't about being the fastest runner or winning races. It's about showing up, carrying the weight and continuing to move forward — especially when it gets uncomfortable.

My initial fundraising target is £5,000.

If following this journey starts one conversation, helps someone reach out, or reminds somebody that they don't have to carry everything alone, then this project will have achieved something far bigger than running.

365 days. Every run. 10kg.
