Story
Help us protect and care for vulnerable Galgos, Podencos, and other Sighthounds in need by joining us for Project Galgo's September Stride. We're walking 2000km to raise money for our pups in need!
Project Galgo supports Spanish rescues in finding Galgos, Podencos and other Sighthounds permanent, safe homes in the UK. When a dog travels to find their forever home from Spain to the UK, they make the long journey of over 2000km from Seville to Dover - to find a forever home where they will find love and kindness for the first time in their lives.
In September, we're walking the entire distance (and more if we can!) to raise money for Project Galgo.
Helping these dogs is crucial due to the widespread neglect, abuse, and abandonment they face, especially after hunting seasons. By supporting rescue and rehabilitation efforts, we give these dogs a chance for a better life and raise awareness about their plight.
The charity is run by volunteers and is not-for-profit, and relies solely on donations. They pay for vet bills, travel fees, rehabilitation, training, medication physiotherapy and more - so we need your help to make sure they can help more dogs in need.
Your donation will support rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing efforts, ensuring these dogs find loving homes and a second chance at life. Join Project Galgo, a dedicated UK-based volunteer organisation, in preventing animal suffering and promoting welfare. Every contribution makes a difference. Donate now to be a part of this vital mission.

How to join our Strava walking group:
How to sign up to Strava
Download ‘Strava’ through your Android or Apple app store on your phone.
Join for free by typing in an e-mail address and password and select ‘Sign up’. You will receive an email asking you to confirm your email address; by clicking on ‘Confirm email’, you will be taken back into the app (so don’t worry about leaving the app at this stage).
Set up a Strava profile by adding your name, date of birth and gender. Press ‘Continue’.
Strava will ask you what you want to get out of the app. Pick your preferred option (we chose ‘Track my activities and workouts’).
Select ‘Walk’ and ‘Hike’ (or ‘Run’ if that’s your jam) as preferred sport. Click ‘Continue’; you’ll then be asked if you want to receive notifications (select ‘Allow’ or ‘Not now’ depending on preference).
The next screen will offer you a paid subscription option. Do not click ‘Start free trial’, instead, click on ‘Skip’ in top right-hand corner. You do not need a paid subscription for September Stride or to join our group.
You can then find friends on Strava, or click ‘Continue’ to skip this stage.
Press ‘Done’!
A pop-up will appear, asking if you want to ‘Record now using Strava’ (select this option if you’re immediately heading out on a walk), or to ‘Connect a device’ (select this option if you want to pair Strava with your Garmin device, Apple watch etc). Otherwise, tap on the ‘X’ in the right-hand corner.
How to join Project Galgo Walking Group in Strava
To join a group, click on the search option (little magnifying glass) in the top left-hand corner, press ‘Clubs’, search Project Galgo Walking Group, this will open up our group page where you can select ‘Join’.
How to record a walk on Strava
To record an activity with your phone, from the homepage simply press record at the bottom of the screen.
You may be asked to ‘Choose a sport’. If Strava has automated to a cycle ride, for instance, simply click the bike icon at the bottom of the screen and change to walk/hike.
You’ll be asked permission by Strava to access your location settings via GPS on your phone; click ‘Allow’.
At the end of the walk, simply stop and upload. It will automatically load up on your homepage and to the Project Galgo Walking Group.
Enter your walk to add photos or change the title of your walk from its automated name (morning walk, lunch walk etc). If you have walked in a group, this will be visible to all and show as a group walk.
For those using a watch, simply record a walk activity. After the walk, switch Bluetooth on on your phone and watch and, providing you have connected the watch to your Strava account, this will automatically sync.
Finally, access your profile page to change a profile photo or any privacy settings such as your profile only being visible to friends.
