Story

In many parts of Congo, disaster victims have increased due to a lack of information and training about ecological and environmental crisis. In Lubumbashi, a city whose economy has been built for many years on mining and mining exports, many people, many families, and institutions (including schools) are facing air pollution because of mining companies that are operating in the middle of the city. The streets and arteries are themselves decorated with plastic waste (thrown away by the consumers themselves) due to the city's lack of a waste management policy.

The Saint Elie Primary School is one the most affected schools. The health and well-being of the children who study there are paying the price. Studying in an unhealthy environment necessarily negatively impacts their life expectancy.

This December, we are running a project to improve the Saint Elie Primary School environment by informing, educating, and training the rising schoolchildren to be eco-responsible. This project is an education and awareness-raising project to promote ecological knowledge and awareness and a collective ecological conversion through awareness-raising, learning, and activities to promote a better environmental within and around the school.

We are raising 453 GBP to implement the project within 3 weeks:

1. Create and implement an ecological club in Saint Elie primary school. An inclusive club

composed of schoolchildren and educators and monitored and supervised by a QS World Merit

Congo member. The club will ensure that ecological and environmental values are respected in the school.

2. Hold a training workshop for the educators of Saint Elie primary school for broader awareness

and successful consciousness-raising. Educators should take the issue of ecology seriously in their teaching to help their students integrate ecological values into their daily lives.

3. Plant 100 trees in the school's concession area. This is a way to create a healthy environment for the school children. The trees will be able to provide more oxygen for air purification within the school.

4. Install bins and organize waste collection event in and around the primary school.

To facilitate these projects and cover some admin costs for QS World Merit charity to develop the realization of these projects, we have a fixed cost of GBP 250 + 20% of the total amount above the target amount.
