Story
The 'back to the locals' Loony Dook in South Queensferry continues, and 2026 will unbelievably be the 40th anniversary year since it all began.
Started originally by locals all those years ago the Dook became part of Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations until 2023 when it was pulled and Chief Loony (his words) and organiser Tony Pirouet decided to try and reinstate it as a local event.
And he did, it was a great success so he did it again in 2024 and 2025 and he's doing it this coming New Year's Day, 1 January 2026. Tony has very kindly asked for donations to be made to Queensferry RNLI again.
Queensferry RNLI has been involved with the Loony Dook for many years, with fundraisers taking to the street with collection buckets and some of the crew 'dooking' themselves.
It's a great community event that Queensferry RNLI has enjoyed being part of and has always appreciated the donations that have come from it. It's great to see it continue.
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. More than ever people need the RNLI’s help. Queensferry Lifeboat Station is crewed by volunteers, who provide a 24hr search and rescue service. We rely on the support of our local communities to power our lifesaving service. Your support will help the running of lifeboat stations like Queensferry and, ultimately, help to save lives.
Thank you for donating.
