Zak’s Goals, Bone Cancer Research Trust

Great Manchester Run Half Marathon 2025 · 18 May 2025 ·
In memory of Zak Mitchell – A true little warrior
This May, I’ll be running the Manchester half Marathon in memory of a very special young lad, Zak Mitchell.
Zak was just 9 years old when he passed away after a brave two-year battle with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.
Zak showed nothing but strength, spirit, and fight throughout his journey. His story isn’t one of sorrow, it’s one of courage, joy, and an unstoppable zest for life.
Zak was football mad, full of energy, and had the kind of cheeky charm that lit up every room. He was a Duracell bunny, a mini Paul Scholes, and a natural on the pitch. Whether he was banging in goals for Leigh United or causing mischief at school, he made an impression on everyone who met him. He was loved deeply by his parents Kirsty and Danny, admired by his older brother Tyler, and missed dearly by his friends, teammates, and teachers.
Bone cancer brings heartbreak and devastation to hundreds each year. Too often, patients reach the end of current treatment options with no further hope.
While other major cancer charities often overlook bone cancer, the Bone Cancer Research Trust is the leading UK charity funding research into this brutal disease – thanks to the generosity of its supporters.
With continued investment, they’ll find new treatments and, one day, a cure for all. Until then, they’re here for everyone affected, offering support, trusted information, and hope.
