Feeding Britain

Bank of America Chicago Marathon · 13 October 2024
Over the next 8 months, I'm taking on some BIG kickass events, one which frankly terrifies me.
The Maxi Race, Annecy is a 93km race around the mountains of Lac du Annecy, with 5,500metres of elevation. There are ladders I"ll have to climb and ropes I will have to cling on to in order to finish this race.
I'll then take on Chicago marathon in October and try to get back under 3 hours 15 to prove that women in their fifties can still run fast.
I'm raising money for Feeding Britain because I was shocked when I recently read an article in The Guardian, in which a headteacher was quoted as saying that food poverty was so bad due to the cost of living, that young children were coming to school with heart murmurs and bowed legs from vitamin deficiency.
It doesn't escape my attention that in running these races, I'll be ingesting a lot of calories for what is, essentially, a 'leisure' pursuit while others don't have enough to eat in their day to day
Having enough food to eat is something that most of us take for granted. And to think that there are large sections of society in the UK who do NOT have enough food to eat is shocking.
Children who go to school with no breakfast and whose parents don't have the money to feed them properly.
Feeding Britain is an award-winning charity with a vision to help ensure that no one goes hungry. They support a national network of 80 regional and local anti-hunger partnerships which covers more than 700 frontline organisations – ranging from community centres and schools, to local authorities and social enterprises.
They work to ensure access to food and also - importantly - to create systemic change via policy work.
