Fundraiser for Rotherham Hospice

In memory of Sarah Bradley

Running and Hiking Events

Rotherham Hospice is a local charity committed to delivering compassionate, holistic care for those with terminal illnesses and their families.

Story

On Boxing Day 2025, we sadly lost our wonderful friend Sarah after a short battle with secondary cancer. She spent her last weeks in Rotherham Hospice, where she and her family - Andy, Jack and Kate - received such wonderful care and support.

Sarah was such an unassumingly kind and supportive person, and we all feel so very fortunate to have met Sarah back in the 90's at Hull University (yes, we're that old) and for that friendship to have continued for nearly 30 years. We will forever remember those uni nights dancing along to the Indie anthems of the 90s.

As well as just being a lovely person, Sarah had immense inner strength and determination, not only overcoming her initial battle with cancer but achieving her goal of completing the London marathon in April 2025.

Inspired by Sarah, and as a friendship group, we wanted to take on a fitting challenge to remember and celebrate her life, whilst also raising money for Rotherham Hospice, which offered Sarah and her family such comfort and gave her that one last jacuzzi bath.

So, we have decided to complete a series of events - celebrating friendship, camaraderie and support - as well as completing something that challenges us personally. Collectively, we hope to complete at least 100 miles over the next 12 months, including:

The Brisbane Half Marathon - aptly starting in Australia with Rachel B. Rach was the first person in our group to meet Sarah and Australia was a place Sarah had loved travelling around after uni and in later years even got engaged there.

Yorkshire 10 Mile - this starts in York, where we so often met up and of course celebrates the fact Yorkshire is where our friendship started. Running along to some 90's tunes and hoping the knees hold up will be Emma and Rach L.

Harewood House Hike - our official hiker, Sam, spent so many hours walking (and chatting) with Sarah so it feels only right she takes on this challenge. She'll even be taking on the inflatable fun run the day before!

In between, to make up the miles, we will take on other events with family and friends. The final miles will see us back at Rother Valley and Brisbane park runs, as we did the day after saying goodbye to Sarah earlier this year.
