Story
On Saturday 12th September 2026, a group of us from Scope Ophthalmics will be taking on Ben Nevis to raise money for our Charity of Choice, the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC).
I believe that if I'm lucky enough to be able to help support others, I should. And whilst I'm still physically able to take on challenges like this (before my knees, hips and everything else decide they've had enough!), it feels like an amazing way to raise money and awareness for a cause that really matters.
Through the Charities of Choice programme, Scope is committed to supporting children with vision loss and their families, helping to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.
RSBC is the leading national charity in the UK for blind and partially sighted children, young people and their families. From diagnosis through to early adulthood, they provide practical support, specialist services and opportunities that help every child and family navigate their own unique journey.
Ben Nevis stands at 1,345 metres and the climb is expected to take between six and eight hours, so there's plenty of training (and a fair few very hilly dog walks and gym sessions!) to get me ready. I'll be sharing a few photos from my training along the way, as well as updates from the climb itself, so you can follow my progress (and hopefully enjoy the views as much as I do!).
My goal is to raise at least £500 and I appreciate we're all inundated with fundraising requests, so I genuinely don't expect everyone to donate. But if you are able to support, however much feels right, I'd be hugely grateful. Every donation, large or small, will help make a real difference to children and families supported by RSBC.
Thank you so much for helping me make every step up Ben Nevis count!
