Running the TCS London Marathon for Macmillan – Supporting Dad’s Fight Against Leukaemia
As you may know, in July last year, we received the tough news that Dad (Richard) had been diagnosed with leukaemia, a form of blood cancer.
After spending many weekends sitting with him in the haematology ward over the summer—listening to him grumble about the hospital food—I decided to apply for a charity place with Macmillan for the TCS London Marathon in April 2025. To my surprise (and slight panic), two months later, I found out I had secured a spot!
Now, as someone who hasn't done much running beyond the occasional Saturday parkrun (often nursing a headache from the night before), this is going to be a huge challenge for me. However, it’s nothing compared to the strength, patience, and resilience shown by Dads incredible nurses- who’ve endured his constant requests to go home to his beloved Maggie, the Jack Russell.
I want to do something to give back to the amazing teams at Blackpool hospital, and hopefully soon the team in Manchester, as Dad continues his treatment. Macmillan has been a fantastic support, and every penny raised will help them continue their vital work for families like ours—getting Dad happy, home, and back to farming where he belongs.
So, while I keep dragging myself out for slow and steady double-digit runs, I would be so grateful for any donations, big or small. Your support means the world and will help Macmillan continue their incredible work.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity!
