Story

I am taking part in this event to raise vital funds for The Big C and in memory of my late husband Christian who underwent 2 years of treatment for Acute Myeloid Luekaemia. He faced his treatment with an enduring courage and fortitude I have not seen in any other human and I still admire him immensely. He was given the opportunity of 2 more years of life because of research that has taken place over the previous 30-40 years into various forms of cancer, this is 2 more precious years that we were able to spend with one another in between hospital stays, visits and appointments and for that I am hugely thankful.

I am also thankful that my sister survived Breast Cancer and is still living her life alongside us. My friend's sister is still alive today after treatment for Chronic Myeloid Luekaemia due to previous research, Lucy who prompted me to take part in the Firewalk unfortunately died last month after 3 years of treatment for Breast and Secondary Cancer. There are very few of us that have not been affected or touched by cancer and this is why ongoing research is so, so important and this can only be done with continuing investment in research.

Every year more than 8000 people in Norfolk and Waveney are told the news that they have cancer, and many more are living with the effects every day.

By taking part in the Big C Firewalk I will be raising money to help improve the lives of local people affected by cancer. The work of the Big C focuses on four key areas - supporting people affected by cancer, funding world-class local research, providing vital medical equipment and facilities in the county's main hospitals and educating local people about cancer for the future.

I hope you will be able to spare a few pennies to help me reach my target.

Thanks so much xxx
