In memory of Barbara Hughes

Abseil 170ft down the Trafford Palazzo · 27 June 2026

We support people living with a life limiting illness, & their families, helping them maintain independence & dignity. We believe everyone should have access to the best care at the end of their lives. To achieve this, our expert team work in people’s homes & at the Hospice to offer specialist care.

Story

In May 2023, my beautiful Nanna gained her wings after a short but brave battle with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). In the last few weeks of her life, she was cared for at Springhill Hospice by some of the most amazing people we’ve ever met. She often told us — and the staff — how at peace she felt there, which brought such great comfort to us all. They didn’t just care for Nanna with dignity, compassion and love, they cared for us as a family too, supporting us through the most difficult time of our lives.

To honour her memory, I’ll be taking on a 170ft abseil… despite being absolutely terrified of heights! Anyone who knows me knows this is completely out of my comfort zone, but that’s nothing compared to what Nanna faced with such strength and grace. I’ll be pushing through the fear in her name to raise some much needed funds.

It costs on average £8,000 per day to run the hospice, and they rely heavily on donations and fundraising to continue providing their incredible care. So please, if you can spare anything at all for this very worthy cause, we would be so incredibly grateful. Every single donation will help another family receive the same compassion and support that meant the world to ours. 🙏
