Story
As many of my friends and family are aware, about four years ago I developed an adverse reaction to any form of LED lighting, the source being in buildings, from computer screens and from mobile phones. The effect has been profound, leaving me unable to do a job that uses a computer or a phone, and often preventing me from spending any length of time inside an LED-lit building.
It is difficult to explain the concept of light-sensitivity or light-disability to people as I look perfectly healthy and my normal self. Life has in fact become a series of strange workarounds and coping mechanisms to allow me to navigate a world where digital access is essential. To really highlight the impact on my life, I cannot currently access dental healthcare or the local hospital due to recent lighting upgrades to LEDs which have a particularly bad effect, combined with the automatic light systems which the staff refuse to turn off.
Very recently, and due to the latest hospital incident, I stumbled on the small charity LightAware. In four years no health professional or advice organisation has even recognised light-sensitivity as a problem, far less been able to raise awareness of a charity set up to campaign on behalf of the thousands of individuals who are now digitally - and socially - excluded from a world with ubiquitous artificial light.
LightAware campaigns on behalf of those people who are significantly more affected than I am. People who are trapped in their homes because of the rollout of LED street lighting and car headlights. People who have no mobile phone or computer access whatsoever, because their reactions are so severe. I am able to navigate around many of the LED-related problems, and so I want to use my relative wellness to support this charity. 97% of the current LightAware membership are light-disabled in some way. I am collecting sponsorship so that LightAware can attract more volunteers who are able to help, and to find the light-sensitive individuals who society has left behind.
Please give generously and tell everyone you know about this condition and about LightAware. Thank you very much.
