I’m Taking on 145 Miles to Support Friends of Frank Wise School
On 23rd May, I’ll be taking on the biggest challenge of my life. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to secure a place in the Grand Union Canal Race — a non‑stop, 145‑mile ultramarathon following the iconic canal route from Birmingham Canal Basin all the way to Little Venice in London.
It’s a race that starts on Saturday morning… and if all goes to plan, I’ll be crossing the finish line in time for dinner on Sunday. No sleep, no breaks — just determination, grit, and a lot of miles.
I’ve been training hard for months, including three 50 mile-distance training runs covering every mile of the route. Each one has been an adventure in its own right, with some pretty tough conditions along the way. I’m hoping May brings kinder weather, but whatever happens, I’ll be giving everything I’ve got.
I’m doing this to raise money for Friends of Frank Wise School, a charity that supports an incredible community of children, families, and staff. Their work makes a real difference, and every donation — big or small — helps them continue providing opportunities, resources, and experiences that mean the world.
If you’re able to support me on this journey, I’d be hugely grateful. Your encouragement will be carrying me through every mile.
Thank you so much for your support.
Rachel 💛
