Story
Update: I did it! I swam for an hour, 3 times in a 24-hour period around the lake at Waters Edge in Worcestershire to raise money for the children's charity: Level Water.
Level Water gives children with disabilities the chance to learn to swim. Every £15 you donate funds one life-changing lesson.
If you sponsored me, thank you! If you've yet to do it, hurry up!
It was a fantastic weekend. I was one of a team of 8 ladies whom I didn't know at the start (except Natasha from the curry club who persuaded me into this in the first place!). But by Sunday lunchtime we had become a team and knew all sorts of things about each other!
The event started at the lake at 'Watersedge' in Worcestershire, at noon on Saturday 22nd.
My one-hour swimming slots were 7pm (black and purple swimsuit), Sunday at 3am(!) in snazzy 'springsuit', swim gloves and swim socks, and at 11am in my old art deco swimsuit. A dry outfit for each session, as advised.
As much as possible we tried to get pictures of each other handing over the pink wristband: the baton.
I'd been getting quite excited about the night-time swim. It wasn't as cold as I'd expected although my head did get a bit cold towards the end.
Swimming in the dark under the stars was a new experience. But I hadn't expected to see bats swooping across the lake, catching the flies - you could see them against the bright lights on the shore where the entry/exit tent was. Lovely!
I managed to swim 4 laps per session, and amazingly (I surprised myself!) this amounts to just over 3 miles of distance.
Would I do it again? Yes. Maybe 5 laps this time! And our team need some better floats or mascots - other teams had inflatable unicorns and flamingos!
Thanks again, everyone for sponsoring me.
