Story
On Sunday 1st October 2023, our son, had a serious motorbike accident. He was critically injured and his chances of survival were slim. A passer-by phoned 999 and the air ambulance was dispatched immediately. On board was a paramedic, a doctor and a surgeon. Without the speed of the air ambulance and the life-saving critical care given at the scene, our son could not have survived. Once at James Cook University Hospital, doctors and surgeons continued for a further six hours to try to save his life. They managed to stabilise him, but he was still critically ill and they couldn't say whether he would survive. After weeks of being unconscious and then weeks of being in Post Traumatic Amnesia, followed by a long stint in Rehab, he finally came home - almost six months after the accident.
The staff at James Cook University Hospital are incredible. Every last one of them. But if it hadn't been for the air ambulance, they would not have had a living person to work on. The Great North Air Ambulance is a charity and not funded by the NHS. On average, each callout costs £4,286. We have therefore created this fundraising page for that amount. If you would like to contribute so the next critically injured person can be given the same chance to live, please do so today.
Thank you, we're incredibly grateful.
