Story
Mental Health is something that has affected most of us at some point in our lives, whether it be a friend, a family member or even ourselves personally. It's something a lot of us brush over and sweep under the carpet, especially as men, but the facts and figures cannot be ignored.
- Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under the age of 50 in the UK (Calm Zone).
- 75% of deaths by suicide are males, and they are three times more likely to die by suicide than women.
Elliot’s Place is a new and innovative project aimed at helping young men struggling with their mental ill health, supporting Blackpool men aged 18+. This Empowerment Charity project is focused on building a community of young men who empower each other and challenge the stigma of mental ill health and suicide.
Elliot's Place was set up in honour of Elliot Taylor.
In order to raise money for Empowerment Charity and Elliot's Place, a team of 5; Connor, Jamie, Joe, Oli and Sam, will be running from Bridlington Coast to Blackpool Coast, a total of 153 miles. The total mileage will be split between the runners, with all of the runners completing 30+ miles each. The team are aiming to complete this challenge before nightfall in one day, which means they will be racing daylight.
The team aim to reach the finish line (Blackpool Tower) before nightfall on the 31st August 2024.
