Story
As 2024's BRSCC Audi TT Cup season approaches, I’d normally have gone out to some local businesses to look for sponsorship, but for various reasons, I'm only able to manage a partial season this year. So instead of looking for sponsorship, this year provides the ideal opportunity to support a charity which I feel particularly strongly about.
As a big rugby fan, watching Scotland & Lions legend Doddie Weir’s battle to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease was equally as inspiring as it was heartbreaking. In particular, it was impossible not to be moved by his appearances at the All Blacks games in 2017 and again in November 2022, before he sadly succumbed to this horrendous condition a few weeks later. His dedication to this cause lives on through his charity, the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, which to date has raised nearly £10M towards finding a cure for MND.
As physical as it may be (don't laugh), sitting in a racing car a few times a year is quite obviously not as gruelling as the challenges which some fundraisers put themselves through, however, I do hope that by proudly displaying the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation logo and tartan on my car, I can raise some awareness and money to put towards this worthy cause.
With that said, please spare what you can to help out, as the foundation will appreciate any donations no matter how big or small. I’ll also be looking to raise as much as I can at the following events throughout the year:
13-14/04/24 – Brands Hatch (Kent)
18-19/05/24 – Snetterton (Norfolk)
08/06/24 – Oulton Park (Cheshire)
21-22/09/24 – Thruxton (Hampshire)
12-13/10/24 – Silverstone (Northamptonshire)
