Christmas Jumper Day · 13 December 2024

Racing Welfare supports the workforce of the British horseracing and Thoroughbred breeding industry. We give professional guidance and support to the dedicated stud, stable and support staff whose work is vital for the well-being of our sport.

Story

Pull on your favourite Christmas jumper on Friday 13th December, and help The Jockey Club raise vital funds for Racing Welfare’s mental health support services.

Mental health support is available to all of racing’s people through Racing Welfare’s Workforce Wellbeing Programme. Increasing access to mental health support is a key priority for Racing Welfare, with mental health being one of the key reasons that people contact the charity for support.

Through Racing’s Support Line racing staff have 24hour access, 365 days of the year, to free and confidential in-the-moment emotional support from trained BACP counsellors. Ongoing counselling provision is also available for those who need it, following assessment.

Racing Welfare believes in proactive and preventative action for mental health and provides subsidised mental health training to those working in the industry. To date the charity has trained over 630 of racing’s people in mental health, helping them to recognise the signs and symptoms of poor mental health, as well as educating them on how to support someone that is struggling. It is Racing Welfare’s vision to have a trained Mental Heath First Aider in every workplace in the racing and Thoroughbred breeding industries.

Racing Welfare also offers critical incident support to workplaces, supporting employees and employers with on-site counselling in the immediate aftermath following a traumatic event.

How your donation could help:

Our target of £2,500 could pay for:

- A course of counselling sessions for six people

- A Mental Health First Aid course training up to 16 people to spot the signs of someone experiencing a mental health issue, how to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening

- Half of the costs of providing critical incident support following a traumatic event (e.g an accident or event), providing instant access to counselling support

Mental health provision is integrated within all of Racing Welfare’s services, ensuring those who need support can access it regardless of their reason for reaching out. Please help us continue to deliver these important and life-changing services to racing’s people.
