Back in April 2022 I was diagnosed with Lymphoma which was brought on by my first case of Cancer and Chemotherapy back in 2000. Thankfully the Lymphoma was picked up after discovering two large lumps on my neck which were hidden under my beard. I was then taken into Ipswich Hospital for a course of strong Chemotherapy followed by just under 2 years of maintenance Chemo and I’m glad to say my cancer is currently in remission. However, I don’t know how long I will be in remission and so I might need the services of this amazing department and wonderful people again in the future!

The Professors, Doctors, Nurses and support staff at Ipswich Woolverstone ward and Day Unit were truly amazing during my whole ordeal. And for that reason each year I try and raise money for the Cancer department so they can continue to help and assist others who are going through the same experience I went through.

This year, 2026, myself and 3 friends who have all fought various health battles in recent years, Stuart Thomas (2 Strokes), Matthew Flynn (Brain Bleed) and John Chandler (battling Kidney Cancer) will attempt with our aging busted bodies to take on the gruelling 24 hour bike ride at the Nurburgring Nordschleife race track at the end of July known as the ’Rad Am Ring’.

The race track is 26km long, 92 turns, over 560 meters of altitude difference and climbs as steep as 17%. Our aim is to complete 24 laps within the 24hrs, fighting off tiredness, the aches and cold as we cycle in a relay around this unforgiving track through the day and night.
