Mayor of Clitheroe's 24-hour radio broadcast on Ribble FM for East Lancashire Hospice

Michael Graveston is raising money for The East Lancashire Hospice

24-hour Radio Broadcast · 21 April 2026

East Lancashire Hospice provides specialist, supportive and end of life care for patients and their families from Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley who are coping with a life-limiting illness. To enable us to continue this work, we need to raise over £4.5 million every year.

Story

I’m Mike Graveston, Mayor of Clitheroe, former radio presenter, and current glutton for punishment. For 24 hours straight, from 10am on Tuesday 21 April to 10am on Wednesday 22 April, I’ll be back behind the mic for a marathon radio broadcast to raise money for East Lancashire Hospice - a charity I’m proud to serve as a trustee - and to shine a light on the incredible work of Friends of Serenity.

Expect tunes, daftness, community spirit and just a spot of Alan Partridge. Jurassic Park!

What’s happening during the 24 hours?

To keep myself awake (and you "entertained"), I’ll be reviving some of the greatest "hits" from my broadcasting days:

The Hip Hop Allotment – featuring the Mayoress, Mum, and local legend Wendy Graveston, dropping horticultural knowledge over beats that definitely weren’t designed for gardening.

What’s the Village, People? – the quiz where you guess the Ribble Valley village from the clues. It’s like Knowing Me, Knowing You, but with more dry‑stone walls.

The Best of The El Lanclasico Podcast with Pickles & Gravey – because nothing says “premium content” like repeating a near 5-year old podcasts two blokes talking coloqial nonsense about the Blackburn Rovers vs Burnley football derby.

Conversations with the extraordinary people behind East Lancashire Hospice and Friends of Serenity, sharing why their work matters so deeply to families across our area.

Youth hostelling with Chris Eubank.

Why I’m doing it

Both charities support families at their most vulnerable moments. Their compassion, dignity, and care change lives every single day. If staying awake and boring you for 24 hours talking into a microphone like a budget Partridge helps raise money for them, then I’m all in.

How you can help

If you’re able to donate, share the page, or tune in and keep me going during the 3am slump (I'm going to play the best music around then), it would mean the world.

Let’s raise as much as we can!
