Radley C Social Removes's fundraiser for The Commonwealth Education Trust

Radley C Social Removes is raising money for Commonwealth Education Trust

As a group of 13, we are rowing from Dublin to Holyhead (The tip of Wales), running from Holyhead to Wrexham, and cycling from Wrexham to London (all indoors) · 12 October 2025

The reality is that only 10% of children in low-income countries are able to read by the age of ten. We desperately need to support teachers’ development, which will improve children’s learning. We support teachers to provide children in lower-income countries with a better education.

Story

We, the Radley College C Social Removes, are raising money for the Commonwealth Education Trust. To achieve this, we will collectively:

- Row from Dublin to Holyhead (in Wales)

- Run from Holyhead to Wrexham

- Cycle from Wrexham to London

Overall, this would result in us travelling 462km, all within the boundaries of Radley College. The reason for this is that in sub-Saharan Africa 91% of students in primary education do not meet the minimum literacy requirements. There is clearly an epidemic of poor-quality teaching in many parts of the world. Change must happen. And this is why we have chosen to support the Commonwealth Education Trust in their strive to end this epidemic of teaching and give children the education they deserve. All donations, both large and small, are greatly appreciated. For every £5 pounds that we raise, one teacher can be properly equipped with the skills needed to teach young people the basics that they need to succeed in this fast-changing world.
