Story

3 Generations Cycle No 2 – The Longer One!

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

I am Rafferty aged 8. I live in Mitcham in SW London.

This summer with my Dad Gary and my Grandad David (both aged well over 8!) we are cycling together from London to Düsseldorf.

This will be our second cycle together, aiming to raise money again for Able Child. In 2023 we cycled to Amsterdam together and raised just over £1,800.

We are excited to cycle together again as a family. We are hoping to complete the approx 200-mile journey in a week in mid July.

As ever there will no doubt be plenty of stops en route under the guise of stopping to give me a rest, but in reality, to check out the various ice cream establishments and make sure Grandad is ok!

We will then have a couple of days break in Germany before turning around and coming home!

Grandad will be continuing a bit further on a solo cycling adventure down through southern Germany and across to Prague and then up to Berlin.

We want to use this activity to help raise awareness in and to support Able Child again.

Any donation you can make would be incredible and make an enormous impact on a child’s life.

It is a real privilege to be able to do something positive for children and young people with disabilities, whilst also doing something we all enjoy so much.

Did you know that in Eastern and Southern Africa;

There are estimated to be 29 million children living with a disability.

They are four times more likely to experience violence or abuse.

They are twice as likely to never attend school.

And they are more likely to be hidden away and living in poverty.

Able Child works toward a world in which no child with a disability is left behind. They support a network of organisations in Africa to protect, educate and amplify the voices of children and young people with disabilities, so they are able to thrive.

We hope that by donating we can help to take steps towards that vision becoming a reality and ensure children with disabilities in Africa are not left behind.

£5 could provide a basic hygiene kit to help a girl with disability stay in school.

£10 could help a disability mentor visit an isolated child to set a plan for their inclusion in school.

£30 could provide a child with a support pack, including essential equipment for them to access education.

£100 could enable us to train 20 teachers in inclusive education and safeguarding practices, helping to make schools safer and more accessible.

Thank you so much for reading our story!

Rafferty Gary and David.
