A powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines near the province of Cebu. Dozens of people have been killed and many remain trapped under the rubble of damaged and destroyed buildings and homes. This is the strongest earthquake to impact the country in more than a decade.
The earthquake has severely impacted communities across Cebu and other provinces. With at least 70 people killed so far, search and rescue teams are working quickly to find survivors in the rubble. Local hospitals are overwhelmed and local authorities have declared a state of calamity. Local GlobalGiving nonprofit partners in the Philippines are moving quickly to help impacted communities and survivors.
The Philippines Earthquake Relief Fund will provide urgent relief and long-term assistance in the hardest-hit communities.
