#RailtonsRun Cardiff Half Marathon
This October, we're taking on the Cardiff Half Marathon, and we'd love your support (and motivation!) along the way.
As many of you know, our daughter Charlotte has spent quite a few admissions on Angharad Ward at Bronglais Hospital. Thanks to viral wheeze and asthma, she's now had nine admissions. While these conditions are common, they're incredibly frightening when you're the child struggling to breathe,or the parent watching it happen.
Every single time, Angharad Ward has been a place of kindness, reassurance and exceptional care. The staff are amazing, and the playroom provides a much-needed distraction and sense of normality while children receive treatment. Sadly, we know we're far from the only family who has relied on the ward.
That's why we're raising money for Cyfeillion Bronglais League of Friends. Rather than guessing what might be useful, we asked the team what they needed most. Their answer was simple: new toys for the playroom. In particular, they'd love to buy a large wooden farm play set, which they feel would really resonate with many of the local children who come through the ward and make their stay that little bit brighter.
Our fundraising target is £500, which will cover the cost of the farm set. If we're lucky enough to raise more than that, every extra pound will go towards additional toys and resources for the playroom, helping even more children during their stay.
We were incredibly lucky to secure places through the ballot for this year's race. Cardiff is a city that means a great deal to us both. Isy studied there and lived there for several years afterwards, so it feels like the perfect place to take on this challenge. For Mark, running has become much more than just exercise. He started running last year as a way to improve his fitness and support his mental wellbeing, and what began as a few runs together has grown into taking on our biggest challenge yet.
A half marathon will be a huge test for both of us. There will no doubt be childcare juggling, aching legs and moments where we're questioning why we signed up,but knowing we're running to give something back to Angharad Ward will keep us going every step of the way.
If you're able to donate, no matter how big or small, we'd be incredibly grateful. Every contribution brings us closer to our £500 target and helps make Angharad Ward a brighter, more welcoming place for children and families when they need it most.
Thank you so much for supporting us...and wish us luck in October!
