Story

Hi folks,

Well, it's that time again, and for this walk this time, I'm pretty much going back to where it all started for me as both an avid walker and bus nut.... School!!

Back in 2001 when little old me (well big me even then!!) was aged 13, Trent overhauled the local bus services which passed my secondary school in Hucknall from the complex 40-47 to the Rainbow 3, seeing a brand new look with brand new orange buses, coming with just four variations on a clockface timetable, the 3, 3A, 3B and 3C.

Fast forward a full quarter of a Century, whilst the A, B and C still exist under the Threes brand, I thought on their 25th anniversary I would cover the original and fastest 3 on foot for Charity, this particular variation disappearing about 17 years ago.

Starting in Mansfield, I'll be following the A38 past Kings Mill Hospital and Reservoir to Penny Emma Way, heading over to Sutton Parkway Station, then down to Kirkby Town Centre via Low Moor Road. From Kirkby, I'll then follow the existing B and C route to Nottingham via the A611 Newstead By Pass, Hucknall National School, Annesley Road, Hucknall Town Centre, Broomhill, Bulwell Hall, then the full length of Hucknall Road onto Mansfield Road and up to Victoria Bus Station.

The approximate distance on this one is 16 miles in a time of 5hrs 15mins.

The Charity I'm raising for is the Oliver Shilton Fund, a worthy cause which funds research into treating Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that forms in bones or soft tissue, primarily affecting teenagers and young adults, ensuring that the survival rates for children diagnosed in the future are better, as well as ensuring that the treatments are gentler on their still growing bodies.
