Story
Keith Boyd's journey began in Cape Town and will end in Cairo as he attempts to break the 25-year-old world record for the fastest time on foot from Cape Town to Cairo. Keith, 57 years old, is an avid supporter of the British Heart Foundation and has first-hand experience of the impact of heart issues and he understands the importance of research and support. He himself has familial cardiovascular heart disease, which cannot be altered by lifestyle choices. His condition is linked to lipoprotein(a), and as a result, he has extremely high arterial calcification, which may cause blockages and blood clots in his arteries.
This journey is more than Keith's personal story. It is about bringing attention to a cause close to his heart , RainbowLeaders.
Of the 36+million eligible voters in South Africa ,18 million are youth. In the 2019 government elections ONLY 16% of 18 year olds voted.
RainbowLeaders' mission is to tackle some of Africa's most pressing challenges: unemployment, poverty, and inequality, and motivate young people to vote, which will lead to a positive change. Keith’s record-breaking run is not only about physical endurance but also about the endurance of the human spirit to overcome adversity and inspire people to take action.
